At many junctures in a community’s development process, doors to the future reveal themselves and these doors represent opportunities for greater growth possibilities - if the lock is thrown and the door opened. Since 1925, the Rowan County Chamber of Commerce has served as a gatekeeper, facilitating the recognition of opportunity and providing an environment for the successful consensus of diverse interests, ideas and issues. The Rowan County Chamber of Commerce dedicates itself to an intense Program of Work. The activities sponsored within the scope of that program are many and include those which develop the Small Business as well as Industrial and Agricultural communities. The Chamber serves as a clearinghouse for business and sponsors frequent seminars and forums of benefit to the business community. It is also a strong advocate of Education and Community Leadership Development.

The Chamber is a catalyst, partner, and coalition-builder for many activities and organizations. It also serves as the front door to Rowan County by handling thousands of its visitors, telephone calls and letters annually. In the past, the doors of opportunity have opened repeatedly in Rowan County, and today, the area stands once again at the threshold of new beginnings. New businesses, new industry, along with impressive growth in existing organizations herald invigorating changes. The county enjoys a healthy economic climate and has done so for many years. With developments such as the opening of the county’s business/industrial park, decisions by several new major employers to locate here and an explosion of retail opportunities, the shining light of even larger success illuminates the future. With change comes increased responsibilities for maintaining positive balances in all areas: wise land use management, workforce preparation, student performance, environmentally sustainable growth, recreation needs, human services and quality of life.

The individuals who represent the varied interests of all these areas must work together effectively now more than ever. As it has for many years, the Rowan County Chamber of Commerce assists this process, providing place and multiple opportunities for networking.

It’s commitment is to develop an economic development plan that will result in job retention, job growth, and economic wealth while maintaining the quality of life in the county. Respect for the past and the foundation it laid for the present also plays a significant role in development choices for the area

Preserving the best of the past to guarantee the quality of the future includes and goes beyond historic preservation. It means taking into account the daily contributions of the individuals who live here, work here and raise their families here. Promoting the healthiest and most enjoyable quality of life possible for the areas citizens is the highest goal of The Rowan County Chamber of Commerce today, tomorrow and into the 22nd century.
